Benetech
Project Description:
The Benetech Initiative has made it possible for a variety of organizations around the world to safeguard their records of human rights abuses in an easy to use, secure, searchable and transparent fashion. The organization's goal is to document and disseminate evidence of human rights violations to accelerate responses to violations and, in some cases, prevent additional abuses.
Problem Addressed:
Although human rights groups throughout the world gather massive amounts of violation data, much of it never realizes its potential to bring the recorded injustices to light. Instead, a large part of this information is lost due to confiscation or destruction, neglect, or because the organizations which collect the data lack the resources or infrastructure to document and communicate violations systematically and securely.
Technology Solution:
The Martus Human Rights Bulletin System is a technology tool to assist the human rights sector in the collection, safeguarding, organization and disseminations of information about human rights violations. Data can be accessed by organizations and cases can be distributed to others to bring evidence to bear on prosecution or other legal procedures in order to help victims.
