SKG Sangha fuses biogas and composting technologies, empowering women to earn money and live in healthier environments.

In rural India, women are not considered socially or economically equal to men. They are relegated to work in the home where they suffer poor health from cooking over wood fires, gathering firewood, and being surrounded by disease carrying waste.

SKG Sangha created a unique system that addresses all of these problems at once. They provide women with tools and training to turn waste, especially cow dung, into biogas, a clean cooking fuel. Furthermore, the byproduct of the biogas process is mixed with organic waste and fed to earthworms to produce valuable fertilizer that women sell for profit. The system recycles waste, makes cooking safer, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and empowers women with income and status.
