OneWorld South Asia
In LifeLines India project, OneWorld South Asia employs telephone and database technology to connect poor farmers to critical agricultural information.
There is little margin for error in the work of poor farmers. A disease among crops or livestock quickly destroys a family's income, threatens their survival, and deepens food shortages. Unfortunately, vulnerable farming communities rarely have access to vital agricultural research.
OneWorld South Asia uses innovative mix of telephones and web technology to create LifeLines for farmers. Farmers simply call with a query and LifeLines knowledge workers either find the solution in their database or contact leading agricultural experts for new information. With a second call, farmers hear answers that can save their livelihoods. Users do not need to be literate or spend money to receive equal access to crucial, up-to-date agricultural solutions.
