Kamal Quadir created technology to build a thriving cell-phone based marketplace.
In the developing world, limited communications hinder commerce. Isolated and uninformed, struggling traders and farmers have little option but to sell their goods cheaply to wholesalers. Many spend their minimal profits traveling great distances to markets.
Kamal Quadir created CellBazaar to capitalize on the proliferation of cell phones in Bangladesh and build an electronic marketplace. Sellers use simple text messages to list products for sale via cell phones, and buyers, in turn, use phones to search products, prices, and locations. Entrepreneurs also gather market information so they can make smart decisions to grow their businesses.
