Problem Addressed:
People who are blind or have a significant reading disability lack access to books and other printed documents; less than 5% of books are available in accessible forms, such as Braille or audio tape.
Technology Application:
Bookshare.org provides a web-based digital library for individuals with visual and other print disabilities. Copyrighted material is provided to registered members under a digital rights provision. Members can select books and download them in one of two formats designed for people with disabilities. Bookshare.org provides virtually unlimited collection and a community where people with disabilities can help each other overcome the challenges of illiteracy and lack of information.
