2004 Forum Report: Financing Technologies for the Environment

Open Space Sessions: Integrating Environmental Technology with Environmental Justice in the Developing World

Facilitated by Susan Lubeck, Community at Work

Questions and observations:

  • What is the right language to use about environmental justice when talking with people who are market oriented?
  • What is the role of grassroots organizations & activists in creating awareness about environmental issues and solutions? Markets for environmental technology solutions?
  • How do we prevent environmental technologies from perpetuating environmental injustice? In the global north, there's agitation & money to insist on use of best e-practices, but it's too common for bad practices to be shifted to places without agitation & money.
  • Can people who are currently financing the development of environmental technology play a larger role in supporting the environmental justice implications of their work?
