Michael Stanley-Jones of the UN Economic Commission for Europe helped establish a broad framework for the day's discussions by outlining some of the United Nations experience in forging partnerships to address environmental issues. In particular, he pointed to the importance of the principles of the Aarhus Convention: access to information, public participation in decision-making, and environmental justice.
