Financing Technologies for the Environment

2004 Forum Report

The first Tech Museum Awards Forum, Financing Technologies for the Environment, was held on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at the Golden Gate Club in San Francisco, CA with the support of Applied Materials, Inc. and The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

The Forum brought a group of The Tech Museum Awards Intel Environment Laureates together for a day of meetings and discussions with more than 60 leaders from business, civil society, academia and government, to advance technology-based solutions to critical environmental challenges.

The day combined lectures and panel presentations with facilitated conversations on "next practices" and "open space" discussions in which participants set their own agenda. The result was a day of innovation and discovery which everyone reported was valuable for their work. One participant commented, "I would have walked 10 miles barefoot across broken glass to attend." This report is a summary of what transpired.

The Forum is a new component of The Tech Museum Awards, a global Awards program that honors 25 innovators each year for their technological innovations to benefit humanity in the areas of Environment, Education, Economic Development, Equality, and Health. The next Tech Awards Gala will take place on November 10, 2004.
